Russian Christmas, a party full of history!
In Russia as in Orthodox Moldova, Santa Claus does not exist and you will not find gifts under the tree on December 25 …
And yet, the Russians celebrate Christmas well!
The Orthodox church celebrates Christmas on December 25, but according to its own calendar which is Julian. The Julian calendar is two weeks behind the Gregorian. So it was on the night of January 6 to 7 that the party came to life.
The tradition at this holiday is to go to church to attend a long Mass, Vespers, and attend the birth of Christ. Orthodox Christmas is also preceded by a 40-day fast.
But don’t worry, if you want to celebrate Christmas in Russia on December 25, the atmosphere is festive between fir trees and light decorations. You will be immersed in the Christmas atmosphere!
Russian Christmas also in Moldova, The tradition being to take advantage of good wines of local production like for example the BRUT Vartely White, of the House VATERLY, proposed by the cellar “RESERVE DES TSARS”
And in France ?
Well yes, in France too we have our traditions at the start of the new year!
Does the Epiphany mean anything to you?
On the Sunday before or after January 6, the French elect their queens and kings with a galette des rois stuffed with frangipane.
Tradition has it that the smallest of the family and the most innocent, hides under the table to share the cake. Following this tasting, the person who falls on the bean is crowned king or queen and must wear the crown.
Be careful, whoever finds the bean must offer a drink to the assembly or offer the next pancake. So on your pancakes you still have a few days to become king or queen!
Offer a drink… think of the BRUT Vartely White, from Maison VATERLY, offered by the cellar “RESERVE DES TSARS”
